Say It Ain't So that beloved America the Beautiful - land of immigrants' dreams and shining beacon of democracy - is devolving into autocracy. Say It Ain't So that after traveling this far along the path toward freedom the last two and a half centuries, we are now turning back - beating a retreat from reality and the world we used to lead, while replacing public accountability with self-serving, fear-based propaganda. Say It Ain't So that those who have been entrusted with 'leading' spend their time instead cooking up chaotic ways for us to serve their interests, contrary to the other way around - America's founding vision of our representatives serving We The People. Say It Ain't So that the American system of 'checks and balances' has suddenly become a thing of the past, with a kowtowing Congress no longer serving as a check on presidential overreach and a subservient Supreme Court preoccupied with tilting the balance of power in favor an all-powerful, law-breaking chief executive (who himself appointed a number of its members)... In protest after protest surging across the nation in recent months, patriotic Americans from all walks of life are showing up in droves - millions and millions of us - joining ranks and pushing back against the coup: "We hold these truths to be self-evident that..." standing idly by during an authoritarian takeover of the country would be as un-American as it gets.
