"While opening for No Age on tour for two weeks this past fall I started thinking about intimacy and audience. How being in the audience night after night created a strange intimacy that left me feeling singularly unique amongst audience members and connected to the band particularly. The super fan might feel something "singular" as well, but that is born from an intimate relationship with the recorded songs, whereas mine was born from the daily rigor of soundchecks and shows. I'm interested in ideas of mediation and representation, so I started poking around at how an "audience" was represented in the world of stock footage and massive concert videos like Billy Joel live from Madison Square Garden. The first half of the video deals with intimate close-ups of Dean and Randy performing, and the second half deals with the idea of what an audience is to be and how they should behave in a universally accessible way. I thought to make some sort of meditation on these ideas, this video is what I came up with." — Joel
